5 Tips For Fixing Broken Garage Door Rollers

Do you have a garage door with rollers that are broken, and you do not know what to do to fix it? Thankfully, it's an easy repair that you are able to do on your own. Here are a few tips to get your garage door working again.

Bend The Track Outward

The first thing that you are going to need to do is create a way to get the rollers out of the track. It may seem counterintuitive, but the best way to do this is to actually bend the track back.

Start by raising the garage door so that it is in the open position. You can take a pair of vice grips and gently bend the track back enough so that you can slide the garage door off the track quite easily. You want to do this below where the bottom roller of the garage door is located. Just make sure that you do not use too much strength and end up damaging the track permanently.

Pop The Door Off The Track

You can now move the garage door into a position where the broken roller is along the part where the bend in the track is located. Then apply pressure on the door to pop it out of the track. This will make it quite easy to replace the roller since nothing is holding it in the track anymore.

Swap Out The Rollers

The process of swapping out the rollers at this point is quite simple. All you will need to do is slide the old roller out and place the new one in. The roller is held in place by the garage door rail, so there is nothing necessary to secure the roller in place.

Pop The Door Back On Track And Repeat

Use the gap you created in the track to pop the door back onto the track. You can now lower the door until the next roller is in position, and then repeat the process of taking the door off the track to gain access to the roller.

Bend The Track Back In Place

Once you've replaced all of the broken rollers, put the garage door back into the open position so that the door is out of the way. You can then use your vice grips to bend the track back so that the garage door will stay in the track for good.
